Phyllis' hands can relax even
the most stressed individual. I walked away

away, feeling renewed and revitalized.

| Syn-er-gy |
1. The interaction of
two or more agents or forces so that their combined
effect is greater than the sum of their individual
effects.
2. Cooperative interaction among groups,
especially among the acquired subsidiaries or merged
parts of a corporation, that creates an enhanced
combined effect. - American Heritage Dictionary |
HealthWise Resources
is fortunate to offer multi-dimensional whole health
care. If you work with several independent practitioners,
we can help you with complex problems using synergy.
Here are just a few examples:
Can't sleep? Try
a combo of hypnosis and massage, supported by Deb's
Flower remedies.
Thinning bones? Try
working with Ria and Judy. Have three physical therapy
visits with Ria for special, safe exercise education
plus three to five visits with Judy for nutrition
counseling.
Stress? Try massage
with Phyllis, Diana, or Deb combined with energy
healing with Deb. Reflexology with Phyllis and hypnosis
with Mikela could also be of great help.
Constipation? Try a
combination of manual physical therapy with Ria to
improve intestinal motility, while following Judy's
nutrition advice and Mikela's holistic health counseling.
- The Triple Treat package
offers 3 half-hour visits with 3 different practitioners
for 75.00. |

Three is
a magic number!
Historically,
important concepts have come in threes. 3 wishes,
body/mind/spirit, 3 wise
men, 3rd
time's the charm, and so on. Gardeners
say it takes 3 years
before land becomes organic. September 1st
was the 3rd
anniversary of HealthWise, and 3 new
practices opened! Judy the Dietitian, Deb
the Massage Therapist (and more), and Mikela
became our new Hypnotherapist (and more).
See the opposite page for information on
the wellness skills they bring to our community.

FEEDING
BODY, MIND
& SPIRIT |
by Judy Trumpy, RD/LD |
| What thoughts
are triggered when you hear the words 'nutrition',
'USDA Dietary Guidelines', 'dietitian' or 'Food
Guide Pyramid'? If you think of 'health', 'well-being',
or 'longevity', you probably have a fairly
centered attitude toward the role of food in
your life. If you think of guilt or shame,
embarrassment or have a general negative view
of food, your current body weight and body
image and the fight you've had with food most
of your life, you could benefit from learning
more about "Intuitive Eating". |
The first step to becoming an 'Intuitive'
eater or an internally regulated eater is to give
yourself permission to eat anything you want That
proposition may sound somewhat scary as you envision
becoming as big as a house and going totally out
of control with food. I'd like to help you understand
this concept more fully and become more comfortable
with food so that you see eating and food as a means
to live, and not living to eat or the constant avoiding
of eating.
With 36 years experience as a registered,
licensed dietitian in the Central Iowa area I can
share with you such concepts as dismissing the diet
mentality, recognizing true hunger, eating what you
like, paying attention to feelings of fullness, silencing
the 'Food Nazi' and honoring your genetic make-up.
Please call me at 233-1139 #15 for
a 15 minute FREE phone session and further explanation
of becoming an intuitive eater.
WHAT IS SHIATSU MASSAGE? |
By Deborah Jeanne Kline,
LMT |
Shi meaning finger and atsu meaning pressure is
an Oriental medicine technique widely used for centuries
and still popular today. From a Traditional Chinese
Medicine perspective, the body is infused by its
electromagnetic field. Qi, or Chi,
energy runs along invisible body channels called meridians.
The meridians influence the functioning of mind,
body and emotions, which interact to create overall
health and well-being. Movement of Qi equals
life; stagnation of Qi equals illness and
death. The goal of Shiatsu is to ensure that the Qi is
flowing steadily and evenly throughout the body.
Imbalance of one area impacts the whole system.
An advantage of Shiatsu Massage is
that it can be safely used in some medical conditions
where Western massage is contraindicated. People
with heart or lymph system complications can be aided
by energetic realignment without the danger of increased
blood flow to the heart or stimulating lymphatic
drainage, yet they can still experience human touch
and relaxation. Another advantage is that the client
is able to be fully clothed for treatment.. Like
acupuncture, the Shiatsu practitioner accesses the
meridians through acupressure points so that the
mind, body and emotions can be realigned to mutually
support overall wellness. Unlike acupuncture, there
are no needles.
If you think Shiatsu may be for you,
Contact Deb at Healthwise at 233-1139 #20.
Also ask her about alternative treatments in Reiki,
Healing Touch, Energy Medicine, Sound/Vibration Healing,
Guided Meditation and Bach Flower Essences.

Mikela is currently accepting
new clients. Call (515) 233-1139 #18 to
schedule. |
MEET OUR NEW HYPNOTHERAPIST
Mikela Licona, Certified Hypnotherapist
When our previous hypnotherapist, Ann
Clausen, left HealthWise to become a minister, she
chose Mikela Licona, Holistic Health Consultant and
Herbalist, to take over her hypnotherapy practice.
Mikela is an excellent hypnotherapist
because of her extensive experience using guided
imagery and her education in whole health. Mikela
derives great satisfaction in working with people
on their life changes.
Through hypnosis a client can reach
a state of deep physical relaxation and heightened
mental concentration. Old habits can be more easily
reprogrammed in the hyper-suggestible hypnotic state.
Hypnosis can be a helpful tool used to quit smoking,
lose weight, or decrease stress.
We thank Ann for three great years
and many successes! We wish the best for her in her
new career. We welcome Mikela and anticipate she
will help many clients achieve their wellness goals. |
