Feeling
Good
by Mikela Licona, Herbalist & Holistic Health
Consultant |
Have you ever heard the saying "Contentment
begins within", meaning that you are in
control of your own happiness and people and
circumstances are not necessarily the source
of you glee? Do not be overwhelmed. While the
statement suggests that you are responsible
for how you feel, it does not imply that you
should blame yourself if you don't feel good.
Here are some ways to begin taking health and
happiness into your own hands.
To feel good we must eat well, but to eat
well, we must feel good enough to want to
make healthy choices. Can you relate? How do
you deal with the conundrum that the food-mood
cycle creates? Start with taking a deep breath.
We know what we should do to be healthy
but have yet to implement good habits into
our everyday lives. Instead, cravings for comfort
become our habits and often unhealthy acts
become routine.
For example, if you feel bad and eat junk,
then you feel bad and feel like the junk you
ate. It's okay. Start wherever you are and
begin to realize that there is a direct link
between what we eat and how we feel. |

Consider the role of your digestive system,
the motor of your body. Your body needs good
fuel and elimination of waste. A compromised
digestive system needs maintenance so every
part can do its job. If contentment begins
within, I suggest we nourish ourselves for
optimal digestion. When the digestive system
is running well, we have stable body weight,
mental clarity, and we feel good.
As you begin to visualize health and happiness
growing inside of you, consider taking steps
to enhance your digestive system by consulting
with a holistic health specialist.

Welcome
to the summer edition of Health Wisdom. This
time of year is healing to many of us because
we can savor nature's bounty from our own or
nearby organic gardens. I encourage you to
shop the farmers markets in central Iowa and
sample the local produce, herbs, eggs, and
plants. Support local agriculture.

| From
the depths of my heart,
Where the eternal flame of Heaven lives,
It brings me the greatest Joy to call forth;
A thousand angels to watch over
Your greatest Dreams & Endeavors,
Infinite blessings to fall in a gentle kiss
Upon the light of your face,
Delicate points of light
To forever illumine your path,
Soft unspoken winds
Of the utmost Ancient Wisdom,
Omnipotent clouds of Grace
For your eternal renewal in Spirit, |
The serenity of every sunrise
Since the dawn of creation,
All the fluid glossiness of water,
Strength of mountains,
Swiftness of wind
And clarity of crystal for your right-use-ness
Trickles and tickles of the greatest Joy
To be poured forth
Into the very core of your being,
And the spaciousness of your deeply rooted
knowing
That You Are all
That is Beautiful Now, |
And all of the Grander yet still
growing,
For the laughter, love, and life
I feel in my heart
From what you have taught me,
Simply must be returned to you
A thousand fold
For all eternity!

Diana Risse, RN, LMT |
Diana recently took intensive
training in Zero Balancing. Read her account of this
exciting healing modality.
What is Zero Balancing? In brief, it is described
as the combination of structure and energy balancing.
The structure that is to be "touched" is
the core bones of the skeletal system, sacrum (keystone
of the pelvis), spinal column (vertebrae), occipital
bone (back of the skull) as well as the leg and ankle
bones. The goal is to help the bone's energy flow
to heal properly after any kind of traumatic injury,
such as a fall down the stairs, slip on the ice,
and motor vehicle accidents causing any impact on
the body's bone structure.
The zero balancing practitioner applies a light
upward pressure into these structural bones using
special fulcrum points with their fingertips to help
the energy flow through the bones with less distortion!
The person who receives the "zero balancing" is
fully clothed and lies on their back during the treatments.
The treatment is usually 45 to 60 minutes long and
the cost is $60.00/ session. Contact me at 515-233-1139
extension #16 to learn more or schedule a session.

Question: My
right hip and low back hurt a lot. Eleven
years ago I injured them in a car accident
where I broke my pelvis in 3 places. I
feel off balance now, which caused me to
fall on the stairs recently. I don't know
if the stair and car accidents are related,
but I need some help. What would be good
bodywork for my problem? - DY, Ames
|
From the Wise Woman: I suggest
you look into Zero Balancing with Massage Therapist Diana
Risse. Zero balancing works with the bones of
the body to normalize the stresses on the body. For
more info, see the article above.
Question: I have
pain in my lower abdomen. It hurts when I have
sex with my husband. I used to be fine. My doctor
says I have no disease, and I have taken antibiotics
four times and they did nothing. What can I do?
- HP, Cambridge
From the Wise Woman: If you have
been to the doctor and cleared of infection or illness,
you might research interstitial cystitis or vulvodynia.
These are difficult but treatable conditions. There
is a book called "A Headache in the Pelvis" by
Wise (not related to me!) which describes ways to
quiet pain and burning using relaxation techniques
and trigger point therapy. Ria
Keinert, PT is interested in these techniques
and would consult with you further.
You can write or email your
questions to The Wise Woman
c/o Ria Keinert, Director of HealthWise Resources.
